Sanwei Mountain
Ranked first of Top Eight Sights in Durhuang’s annals of local history, Sanwei Mountain stretches a dozen of kilometers from east to west, and its highest peak sits opposite Echoing Sand Mountain cut by the Daquan River. Dunhuang is commonly esteemed a holy place of Buddha, while Sanwei Mountain is the origin of Mogao Grottoes. In memory of the first Mogao Grotto excavated in 366 A C, the Buddha statue on Sanwei Mountain rises up 36.6m, the second largest bronze Buddha statue in China, adding a new highlight in Sanwei Mountain as well as in Dunhuang.
