Aski Sahr(Pantuo City)
Aksi Sahr is one of the scenic spots in Kashgar and it is located in the southwest of the city,not far from Mausoleum of Yusep Has Hajib. From A.D.74-97,Ban Chao,a great Chinese General of Eastern Han Dynasty,stationed here more than 17 years.
One kilometer walk from Mausoleum of Yusep Has Hajib,along Jiefang Road,turning eastward to Doletbagh Road for 500 meters,the ruins of ancient Pantuo City is seen,which is located on the bank of Toman River.This is the ruins of a very important fortress where Banchao and his troops lived foe 17 years.
In 1994,in memory of the famous General,the local government decided to restore a part of the ancient city.In 1996the first building was completed.Aksi Sahr occupies an area of 15 square meters with and 36 statue of Banchao in alongside.In addition,a beacon tower and gate were built.In the Han Dynasty,Kashgar was ruled by Shule--one of the 36 Kingdoms in the Western Regions.The story that Banchao let 36 warriors,with courage and wisdom,to march along the south edge of Taklamakan Desert in the early summer of A.D.73 so as to set up a stable base to resist Xiongnu(the Huns)was knowns for and wide.He used the city as a base to flight with Xiongnu,to reopen the Silk Road and to established the administration system of the Eastern Han Dynasty and to strengthen the relationship between the Western Regions and the inland China.
Today,the ruined city wall,3 meters long,still remains here.It is as thick as 7 meters,which witnesses the ups and downs of 2000 years,The statues inside the city now shows people’s respect for and fondness to the hero in history.
